Goldbacks debuted with the release of Utah Goldbacks, offering Americans the first form of spendable gold in nearly a century.

Goldbacks are designed with 24-karat gold and feature unique designs for each denomination honoring the heritage of the state for which each series is issued.

Florida is the latest state to have a Goldback Series, and it marks the debut of new denominations in the form of 1/2, 2, 5, 10, 25, 50 and 100 Goldbacks.

The primary design of the 5 Florida Goldback Gold Note captures the history of piracy along the coast of Florida. The design shows a female pirate looking over charts on the deck of a ship in the foreground.

The phrase BRAVERY CONQUERS THE UKNOWN is printed at the bottom, while a pirate vessel sails in the background with the word AUDAX on it. The original Latin term audax referred to a bold, daring undertaking and was also translated as courageous, spirited, and foolhardy.
