The Florida 1/2 Goldback (1/2000 Troy Ounce 24k Gold)

Goldbacks debuted with the release of Utah Goldbacks, offering Americans the first form of spendable gold in nearly a century.

Goldbacks are designed with 24-karat gold and feature unique designs for each denomination honoring the heritage of the state for which each series is issued.

Florida is the latest state to have a Goldback Series, and it marks the debut of new denominations in the form of 1/2, 2, 5, 10, 25, 50 and 100 Goldbacks.

The Florida Half Goldback honors the virtue “Spes” (Hope) through the figure of a Spanish conquistador kneeling by the mythical Fountain of Youth, symbolizing hope for renewal.

Wearing armor adorned with the fleur-de-lis, she represents Spain’s sanctioned exploration of new lands.

Nearby, the year 1513 is etched in stone, commemorating Juan Ponce de León's arrival in Florida, spurred by legends shared by the Timucua people about a rejuvenating spring.
